Review:The 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape is a stunningly rich, perfumed wine, but backward, and will require some bottle age. Aged completely in old foudres, like all the reds at this estate, this wine has an inky blue/purple color to the rim, and a beautiful nose of acacia flowers intermixed with blackberry, creme de cassis, and sweet, dark, licorice-infused black cherries. Powerful, rich, tannic, and fresh, with exceptional definition, this is a blockbuster for the vintage, and should age nicely for two decades or more. In fact, it probably needs 2-4 years of bottle age.
