“Is hard to beat but easy to like. It offers up a wonderful nose of fresh picked kaffir lime leaves, wet stones and hints of honeysuckle. It boasts a wonderfully elegant mouth feel, showing perfect balance and flavors of unripe pear, green apple, and flinty aspirin linger on. This is a middle weight contender that screams elegance and is a perfect match wine to match up with cream based pastas or lobster thermidor. Lovely now. It will drink well thru 2011.”
The 62-acre La Scolca estate, owned and directed by Giorgio Soldati, is situated in one of the best communes, Rovereto. La Scolca is an artisinal winery which pioneered modern, controlled, vinification in stainless steel to preserve the subtle fruit of the Cortese grape. Yields are kept low, well below the legal maximum, through severe pruning and thinning.
Pale straw color, with delicate greenish highlights. Intense fruit and floral fragrance. On the palate it is strongly typical of Gavi: fruity and flinty with notes of almonds, hazelnuts and walnuts lingering in the finish. Enjoy with white meats, sushi, shrimp, shellfish, salmon, pork, oysters, Hard cheeses, fowl, fish, crab, chicken.
